Camberwell is a small cattery committed to breeding and showing Maine Coons, Cornish Rex and European Burmese of exceptional quality and temperament. To achieve this goal, I have sought out the finest lines available. To further realize quality and health, the cattery remains small so as to provide individual attention to raising each kitten to ensure it a happy, healthy life. All Camberwell kittens are members of the family first, regardless of whether they go on to the show ring or to a new home to bring happiness into another family’s life.
“Camberwell” began in 1978 from the days of my first show cat -- a shaded silver Persian. When I was blessed with my first Colorpoint Shorthair (quite by accident), I felt that a new cattery name was in order; one that was meaningful in a big way. The obvious answer came to me through a very special cat, GRC The Heriot’s Camberwell Beauty, my first Colorpoint Shorthair grand champion. Already named by her breeder, Margaret Parks (an English import herself), my little tortie point exemplified her namesake, which is a small speckled butterfly. The Camberwell butterfly logo was designed by Johanna Dobler Liebfarth in 1985 as a tribute to Beauty. Beauty is gone now, but a little bit of her lives on in each Camberwell kitten. Her memory motivates me in my strive for excellence.
The goal of my breeding program is to maintain and continually improve the quality and consistency I have achieved on a small scale. My overall goal is and always will be to rejoice in my love of cats with my cat family at our weekend reunions for the fun of it, for the memories of yesterday and the dreams of tomorrow.
